The INTSPEI Logo is a graphical representation of Archimedes using a lever to move the Earth.
There are three main symbols in the logo: the Lever, the Earth and Archimedes. The Lever means productivity that helps you to be as efficient as possible. The Earth means international and global impact - wherever you are - you can influence the whole world.
Archimedes personifies science. He was a great ancient Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer, and philosopher. He is widely regarded as the most important scientist in antiquity.
The idea behind the Logo is very simple: even if you are very small - you can change the world with the right method or approach. This is especially true if your methods are new ideas.

As a prototype we used the picture you can see at the bottom of the page. This is an engraving from Mechanics Magazine published in London in 1824.
While Archimedes did not invent the lever, he gave the first rigorous explanation of the principles involved. Those principles are: the transmission of force through a fulcrum and moving the effort applied through a greater distance than the object to be moved. His Law of the Lever states: Magnitudes are in equilibrium at distances reciprocally proportional to their weights. The results of his research and work on levers caused him to remark: "Give me a place to stand on, and I will move the Earth."
Here at INTSPEI, we are developing methodologies that will enable people to use their knowledge as a lever to move the Earth, and the computer is their fulcrum.
